About IFI Patent Intelligence IPC-8/USPTO Classification Concordance

The IFI Patent Intelligence IPC-8/USPTO Classification Concordance represents data based on the Eighth Edition of the International Patent Classification (IPC) manual.*  The IPC to U.S. Classification references have been constructed using live data from the IFI CLAIMSÒ patent database and represent actual IPC codes assigned to affected patents by U.S. patent examiners.  The material for this concordance covers all U.S. patents issued since January 1950 through the latest update.

IFI's concordance tool can point you to comparable classes in the IPC and USPTO classification schemes.  The Concordance analyzes the IPCs actually assigned by USPTO patent examiners to all U.S. patents granted. You can find the correlation between U.S. classes at the subclass level and IPCs at the subgroup level, and can look up either IPCs or U.S. classes in this dual concordance to locate corresponding classes in the other system.
