CLAIMS® XML – a single standard for all patent sources
Data from different sources are normalized and merged into a single proprietary ST.36-based XML format. The standardized format is used for all new patent documents as well as updates that include including legal status, US reassignments or referenced images.
Application, priority and publication numbers are normalized based on DocDB, a product from the European Patent Office, which is the "backbone" of CLAIMS Global Patent Database records. Data from national patent offices are merged with DocDB bibliographic data.
CLAIMS XML provides standardized applicant names but retains multiple versions of applicant and inventor names to improve retrieval and enable comparison.
